Cathy Boswell Biography

Cathy Boswell was born in Joliet, Illinois on November 11, 1962. She was destined to become a successful person and basketball player. Growing up Cathy received many honors and accolades while playing basketball at an early age and in high school. After high school Boswell stayed in the state of Illinois to attend Illinois State University where she broke many records.

The legendary guard on the Illinois State Women's Basketball team, who lettered from 1979-1983 became the all-time leading scorer in Illinois State history. Boswell scored 2,005 career points, snatched 1,054 rebounds, and holds six school records. Not only that, she led her team to 90 wins in her career, along with an NCAA bid in 1983, a 15th place finish in the AIAW National Tournament in 1981, and two women's NIT bids in 1980 and 1982.

After college she became a member of the 1984 women's Olympic gold medalist basketball team to win in Los Angeles. Other honors include Kodak All-Region selection three times, a Wade Trophy finalist twice, a WBCA All-American, JC Penny All-American Five, and was a member of four ABA USA teams.

After her success at the Olympics, her career didn't stop there, she became wanted by many European countries to play in pro leagues. Boswell has extended her career touring the world by playing in Germany, Spain, Italy, Portugal, France and Brazil.

Cathy Boswell retired twice her career. Once after the 2004-2005 seasons where she played with Olesa (Barcelona) and in 2006 after playing in Olis Soller (Mallorca). Currently, Boswell will be an assistant coach in Spain for a team in the Liga Femenina 2 near Madrid.
